"Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Fuck you whore"

500 Days of Summer

This quote still makes me crack up

EXAM TIME!

I always feel a little bipolar around exam time.

Exams are easy, they’re hard.

I love studying, learning sucks.

I’ll be fine, oh man I’m so fucked.

Procrastination.

Blegh

"An inveterate prankster, he wrote several humorous pieces under the pseudonym “Egerton Yorrick Davis”, even fooling the editors of the Philadelphia Medical News into publishing a report on the imaginary phenomenon of penis captivus, on December 13, 1884.[11] The letter (still cited in all seriousness in a number of textbooks) was apparently a response to a report on the phenomenon of vaginismus reported three weeks previously in the Philadelphia Medical News by Osler’s colleague Theophilus Parvin"

"If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer…
If you’re a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!"

Invitation, by Shel Silverstein

  • Dr. Meredith Grey: You're sleeping with someone?
  • Dr. George O'Malley: What? Who?
  • Dr. Cristina Yang: Why is that such a shock? Even George managed to get some action.
  • Dr. George O'Malley: Correction, George got some syphilis.

Don’t even waste a minute

I think the scariest thing I’ve discovered so far in medical school is that there’s always more. We’re never going to learn everything, we’re never going to know as much as we’d like but if we’re lucky we’ll know enough. This doesn’t just go for study but all aspects of our life.

There’s an old saying “Don’t rest on your laurels” and never has it felt more appropriate. Whatever we’ve done in the past, it’s in the past and it’s the future that matters. We’re like sharks, always moving, searching for the next target, the next goal.

I just got an exam back the other week. To be fair I did alright in it, better than the majority of people but it’s the worst I’ve ever done in an exam. Incidentally it’s also the one time when I’ve been very laid back in my study. My father told me once that it’s fear that keeps you alive. He was right. So to all you fellow medical students, friends and fellow explorers of the garden that is life I implore you, don’t waste your life. Get off reddit, turn off the TV, go out there and do something because it all matters, each and every second.
